Overview The 58,000 ton MSC Armonia The onboard ambiance is sophisticated and relaxed. There are lots of wide open spaces for cruisegoers to mill around and take in the glorious ocean views. Public Areas There was nothing out of the ordinary with respect to the public areas except for the seemingly haphazard layout of the shops. The casino felt empty because there were only a few gaming tables in the area designated as the casino. The two tiered theatre had good sightlines. None of the lounges ever seemed crowded except when the activities'staff was conducting a program of one sort or another. The twin dining rooms were unpretentious but comfortable. The library/card room, tucked away in a small area outside the theatre, seemed like an afterthought. It was not used much. On the pool deck both the ice cream/juice bar and a rock climbing wall remained inoperable. There was no public movie theatre - a definite desideratum as the cabin TV programming was sparse. Activities Come join us aboard the MSC Armonia, where our activities include much more than dull board games. We take pride in relaxing the body with our pampering spa, keeping fit with our state-of-the-art equipment, and also keeping our younger cruisers occupied as well. We challenge you to indulge in our various specialties. Along with being pampered and keeping fit we also encourage our cruisers to participate in our intellectual enrichment-at-sea programs. Our educational programs are mind sweeping, they include Italian language lessons, cooking classes, informational seminars, and discussions in a classroom setting.
Fellow passengers The overwhelming majority of passengers were Brasilian as one might expect on a 7 day sailing round trip from Rio de Janeiro. Since the staff is largely european, english did not dominate conversation. Of course passenger demographics are a function of ship's location. As mentioned above, there was an inordinate amount of kids so I suspect MSC was running some kind of promotion for children with parents. I do not know if this is common for MSC. Gratuity MSC's "Tipping Not Required" literally means it is NOT required for you to leave a tip. The waiters are paid a salary, so it is not obligatory for you to leave the standard amount for a tip. Unlike most cruise lines that tell you that tipping is optional, with MSC Cruises tipping is not required. That means you aren't obligated to spend money that could be spent on an excursion or buying photos on the ship. However, if you would like to tip your MSC Armonia ship staff for onboard services, MSC Cruises suggest the following procedure: Waiter and Stateroom Attendant receive $3.50 to $5.00 per person per day; Maitre D' $1.00 - $2.00 per person per day. Tips are forwarded directly to personnel; onboard accounts do not receive tip charges. |
