Eighty-one percent of the staterooms offer ocean views; 25 percent have private verandas. Amenities are similar to those in fine land-based resorts: herbal soaps, shampoo and lotion, hair dryer, chocolates on the pillows. There are 17 cabin categories of accommodations, with suites and mini-suites with verandas (categories PS, S, A and B) being a wonderful splurge - imagine sitting in your own private terrace to enjoy the eight-hour daylight transit of the Panama Canal! Veranda Suites are an expansive 563 sq. ft. and feature whirlpool bath and shower, two beds convertible to king-size, large sitting area, dressing room, sofa bed, VCR, mini-bar, refrigerator, floor-to-ceiling windows and veranda. Plus, nowhere is the suite life sweeter than on HAL with such complimentary services/amenities as bathrobes, personalized stationery, tea and hors d'oeuvres served in the suite, cocktail party with the captain, Indonesian Rijsttafel luncheon hosted by the captain, corsage and boutonniere the first formal night, and special disembarkation privileges. A Large Outside Double (Category D) is a good middle-of-the-road stateroom choice: 197 sq. ft. with sitting area. Ours had a pleasant peach/rust/beige/blue color scheme, lots of closet/drawer space and bath with tub. Inside Doubles, (Categories I-N) measure a roomy 182 sq. ft. Staterooms on Lower Promenade Deck open to the promenade (where your views may be of walkers).

Penthouse Verandah Suite Deck: Navigation Penthouse Verandah Suites PS feature a private bedroom with king-sized bed, private verandah, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, living room with sofa bed, dining room, private bathroom with shower and oversized whirlpool tub, dressing room, guest bathroom, pantry, minibar, refrigerator, VCR, television, minisafe, telephone, multichannel music, and a hairdryer. Enjoy additional suite amenities including complimentary bathrobes, personalized stationary, feather pillows, complimentary laundry/dry-cleaning service, fresh fruit, video library, afternoon tea, hors d'oeuvres served before dinner upon request, corsages and boutonnieres for the first formal night, and special disembarkation privileges. Approximately 937-sq.-ft. suite with 180-sq.-ft. verandah.

Deluxe Verandah Suite Deck: Navigation Deluxe Verandah Suites SA offer two lower beds that convert to a king-sized bed, a private verandah, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, large sitting area with sofa bed, private bathroom with shower and whirlpool tub, dressing room, refrigerator, minibar, VCR, television, minisafe, telephone, multichannel music, and a hairdryer. Enjoy additional suite amenities including complimentary bathrobes, personalized stationary, feather pillows, complimentary laundry/dry-cleaning service, fresh fruit, video library, afternoon tea, hors d'oeuvres served before dinner upon request, corsages and boutonnieres for the first formal night, and special disembarkation privileges. Verandah Stateroom Deck: Verandah Verandah Staterooms A feature two lower beds that convert to a queen-sized bed, a private verandah, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, sitting area with sofa bed, private bathroom with shower and whirlpool tub, refrigerator, minibar, VCR, television, minisafe, telephone, multichannel music, and a hairdryer. Approximately 229-sq.-ft. suite with 60-sq.-ft. verandah.

Large Oceanview Stateroom Deck: Lower Promenade, Verandah Large Oceanview Staterooms C feature two lower beds that convert to a queen-sized bed, a picture window, private bathroom with tub and shower, minisafe, television, telephone, multichannel music, and a hairdryer. Approximately 196-sq.-ft. stateroom.

There are three different style suites available onboard Holland America Amsterdam: Penthouse Verandah, Deluxe Verandah and Veranda Suites. All suites offer gorgeous floor to ceiling windows and private verandah for an outstanding view, whirlpool bath and shower, refrigerator and mini bar and extra sitting area.

All are very comfortable and the more deluxe the category, the more extravagant the amenities are available to you. At 1159 sq. ft., the Penthouse Verandah Suite offers an oversize whirlpool bath & shower, living room, dining room, dressing room, private verandah, pantry, 1 sofa bed for 2 persons, a mini-bar, a refrigerator, a guest toilet and floor-to-ceiling windows to boot.

Exclusively available to Penthouse and Deluxe Verandah Suite guests is the Neptune Lounge, a place to relax over breakfast pastries and your favorite newspaper, or gather for conversation, evening hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.
