St. Maarten
St. Maarten is one of the most rewarding stops for a cruise ship passenger - where else can you experience the food, style and hospitality of two separate countries in an exotic West Indian setting? The island is divided between French St. Martin in the north and Dutch St. Maarten in the south. Both sides of this 37-square mile island offer beautiful ocean vistas, gourmet cuisines, first-rate water sports and beaches, and some of the best duty-free shopping in the world. Ships dock in Philipsburg, the capital of Dutch St. Maarten. Its two main bustling thoroughfares are lined with shops and restaurants. A half-hour's journey north will bring you to Marigot, the capital of French St. Martin. The atmosphere of this side of the island contrasts sharply with the Dutch side. You will find haute cuisine, chic bistros, specialty boutiques and perfume shops rather than the duty-free luxury good outlets that typify Phillipsburg.
Barbados
High tea and cricket in the afternoons remains a tradition on the very British island of Barbados, also called the "Little England" of the Caribbean. The Bajan landscape, with its breathtaking panoramas of ocean and valleys, and endless pink- and white-sand beaches, is one of the most majestic in the Southern Caribbean. Barbados is the perfect setting for snorkeling in turquoise waters, touring historic sites or taking in a round of golf.
Martinique
The charming, and very French, island of Martinique is a perfect haven of secluded beaches and uncrowded dive sights. The early Carib people called Martinique "the island of flowers" and indeed, it still is, with plenty of lush vegetation and fragrant flora. The port city of Fort-de-France, its capital, offers chic shopping and plenty of colonial history. Travel up the coast past quaint fishing villages including one where Columbus touched land. And be sure to visit St. Pierre and the ruins of the city that was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Pelee in 1906.

Limon, Costa Rica.
The best thing to do with jewels is admire them. And if they're as exquisite as Limon in the lush, peaceful country of Costa Rica - you protect them as well. Which is precisely what the government has managed to do. More than 27 percent of Costa Rica's amazing terrain is designated as national park, biological reserve, wildlife refuge or some other category of protected area. Home to hundreds of thousands of species of exotic flora and fauna this special fertile land is also a haven of spectacular beaches and wonderful historic ruins.
Colon, Panama.
There’s more to Panama than the canal. Panama’s ethnic mix is reflected in its arts. This is a proud nation that honors its many Indian tribes and its rich Spanish legacy. You can shop for traditional arts, such as wood carvings and ceramics, tour an Embera Indian village or take part in a peaceful kayaking trip. One thing is sure - once you've embraced Panama, you’ll find it hard to leave.
